Homemade Easter Peeps

Easter is just a few days away and along with colored eggs and bunnies, peeps have become a worldwide phenomena. Through excellant marketing and branding, factory fresh peeps can be had nearly year round with seasonally appropriate formats.  But the holiday that started it all is Easter.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the things for any purpose other than the amusement of watching in the microwave.  Even peeps ’smores do nothing for me.  So I’m not going to post my reciepe as I haven’t actually tried any of these. But you might like peeps and you might have kids that enjoy making a mess.  If either so these is true, these articles are from you.

The first is from Serious Eats.  This recipe illustrates the most realistic results you might expect the first time out.  But part of peeps’ growing  acceptance into pop culture is because the look “so pathetic they’re cute.” It can’t be the taste.

Can you make Peeps look better than this?

The second article probably represents the best-of-the-best approach to your own personal peep factory.  The peepishness of the result in not quite true to the genre but likely more edible.  Take your pick and have fun!

Peepishness is not quite there - but definitely a high quality product.
